All world Radio Station in one click

All world Radio Station in one click
Farm Radio International developed the Her Farm Radio (HFR) project with funding from IFAD, in response to recognized barriers facing rural women in accessing relevant agricultural information and in having their needs, experiences and questions shared on a wide-reaching communication platform. Women’s lesser access to radio sets and mobile phones, the paucity of rural women’s voices within rural radio programs, and the lack of on-air discussion of gender-related issues of importance to women all conspired to reduce the relevance of rural radio to female farmers. The project began in January 2015 and concluded at the end of June 2017.

Women carry out a substantial and growing part of the work on family farms and represent 43 per cent of the global agricultural workforce. In many parts of the world, women are more likely to work in agriculture than in any other sector. Much of this work is unrecorded, undervalued and unpaid. In addition, the challenges that are common to all family farmers are often exacerbated for rural women, impeding their ability to improve their own livelihoods and those of their families.

For women to have more meaningful contributions to farm management and decision-making, they must have consistent access to relevant and reliable agricultural information provided through easily available means that suit their daily lives and schedules. Further, women need to have opportunities to participate equitably in the conversations, sharing their own experiences, perspectives and needs. In many rural areas in East and Southern Africa, this is a major gap, yet the infrastructure exists to make this happen, in the form of radio and mobile phones. FRI has long worked with local radio stations and has evidence to show that programs which respect and include women farmers can give them confidence to ask questions, make decisions and support new practices within their family farm.

The innovative approach adopted in this grant was to build the capacity of female farmers to express their voices and advocate for their needs and rights through radio and mobile phones. Through greater awareness of gender issues, and targeted segments within radio programs, the project aimed to provide women with increased access to information critical to improving their livelihoods and helping them to be more resilient as a group or community.

OnePlus 5 to Be Available in Croma Stores Across India From September 19

HIGHLIGHTS

  • OnePlus 5 is currently available on Amazon India, OnePlus stores
  • It will now be available in Croma across the country
  • The retail outlet will begin selling it from September 19
The OnePlus 5 was launched in India in June this year, and it was made available on Amazon India, and the OnePlus store online. If you wanted to buy it offline, the only way you could do it was head over to the OnePlus Experience Stores in Delhi and Bengaluru. Now, in a bid to begin charting its offline presence in India, the company has announced that the OnePlus 5 will be made available in Croma retail outlets across India as well.

This is the first time OnePlus has collaborated with a retail outlet to sell its smartphones offline in India. The company first had an exclusive partnership with Amazon India, and then branched out the capacity to its official OnePlus online store. Only recently, did OnePlus launch its experience stores in the two cities, with a promise for expansion in more cities eventually. It also sets up pop-up stores in various cities during initial launch days for users to be able to try out the smartphone, and buy it there instantly. But that is usually a temporary affair, after which users had to rely on Amazon or OnePlus online store for the purchase of the smartphone. Now, for the first time, OnePlus will make its OnePlus 5 flagship available in Croma retail outlets across the country from September 19.

The OnePlus 5 price in India is Rs. 32,999 for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant, while those who want to purchase the model with 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage will have to shell out Rs. 37,999. The OnePlus 5 has a 5.5-inch full-HD screen, Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with OxygenOS skin on top, and is powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor. The smartphone's camera setup on the back consists of primary 16-megapixel and telephoto 20-megapixel sensors, while the front camera has 16-megapixel resolution. As for the battery, OnePlus 5 comes with a 3300mAh battery with Dash Charge support for quick-charging.

WHATSAPP DELETE FOR EVERYONE FEATURES:- DELETE SENT MSG IN WHATSAPP

WHATSAPP DELETE FOR EVERYONE FEATURES:- DELETE SENT MSG IN WHATSAPP

WhatsApp will roll out a new update which will let users delete sent messages with an exciting new feature dubbed Delete for Everyone.

WhatsApp looks to be in the final testing stages with the servers now able to handle recalling messages that have already been sent.

WABetaInfo, a Twitter account focused on WhatsApp beta, revealed the news that Delete For Everyone is drawing near to its release date.

They said that Facebook-owned WhatsApp are currently testing the feature and that it will be “available soon”.

WABetaInfo said: “DELETE FOR EVERYONE FEATURE: WhatsApp is finally testing the Delete for Everyone feature: the server finally works and it successfully recalls the message.

“Also if the server works, this does not mean that the feature is currently enabled.

“It will be remotely enabled later, and seen that WhatsApp “enabled” their servers for the Delete for Everyone feature, it may really be enabled soon.”

In a later tweet they added once a message is deleted it will be removed from the Notification Centre.

The new feature, which is coming to iOS and Android, will be a huge boost for anyone who has ever sent a text message and immediately regretted it.

WHATSAPP DELETE FOR EVERYONE FEATURES :- DELETE SENT MSG IN WHATSAPP
The feature has long been rumoured, with Express.co.uk reporting on the existence of it back in February.

Back then we revealed that WhatsApp were trialling the new feature within its iPhone beta software.

Those with access to the early beta release say the feature is disabled by default, meaning users have to know of its existence, and seek it out within the settings menu to enable it.

Pressing and holding on a sent message within the iOS version of WhatsApp now includes two new options in the small menu.

Edit will let you change the content of the message, while Revoke lets you pull the text from the conversation – as if it never existed.

Delet sent msg in WhatsappWhatsapp Delet for EveryoneWhatsapp New Features
Unfortunately, the ability to revoke your message will only work when the recipient hasn't seen the text.

WhatsApp can currently delete messages from your own device, however the deleted messages will remain visible to the recipients.

The new Delete for Everyone feature will reportedly allow users to recall all messages that have been sent within the last five minutes.

This includes text-based messages as well as those that include images, videos and GIFs.

Sent files with quoted messages and attached documents will also be able to be recalled, as will Status replies.

Unfortunately, there is a catch – only messages that have not yet been opened or read by the recipient can be recalled.

If the WhatsApp recipient reads the message or it falls outside that crucial five minute window, you’re going to have to deal with the fallout of whatever message you desperately tried to revoke.

Whatsapp new features: share any tyoe of files

Whatsapp new features: share any tyoe of files

So far you are sharing photos, videos, word documents and PDF files using WhatsApp. Files which were not available in WhatsApp support were uploaded first to the cloud to share files. Then there was a link to download for download. Apart from this, other options are available as soon as you want, you can share this file with somebody using Third Party Apparas. But now it seems that WhatsApp has decided that its users will no longer have to rush to share any files.

According to sources, the company is testing to transfer every file. This test is running in Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. After the new feature comes, any kind of file can be shared using WhatsApp.

It has been claimed that some users of India, Japan, Kuwait and Sri Lanka are using this feature but some users are still deprived of this feature. Hopefully WhatsApp will rollout this feature for every user in the future.

After this new feature comes, different video formats, MP3 songs and APK files can also be shared using WhatsApp. Using WhatsApp, you can share good quality videos and photos without having to worry.

It is worth mentioning here that more recently a feature is to be added soon to the Wootset, which allows users to transfer money.

Nokia 6 review :- Offers pure Android experience with good build quality

Nokia 6 review :- Offers pure Android experience with good build quality

Critic Rating3/5
User Rating4.2/5
Top Features

*Good build quality
*Pure Android experience
*Affordable price

Much has been said and written about how the once-loved by one and all smartphone brand Nokia was late in embracing Android. As the old adage goes, better late than never and Nokia made its comeback to the smartphone segment with the launch of Nokia 6. It is the first Android-powered device to come with Nokia branding. Nokia smartphones are being manufactured by Finnish company HMD Global. Nokia 6 is a well-constructed smartphone and it falls in the budget smartphone category as it is priced at Rs 14,999. The device offers decent specifications and will also receive an update for Android 8.0 Oreo, but will this help Nokia in regaining its market share? We try and find out. We reviewed the Nokia 6 to see where its stands in the overcrowded Indian smartphone market.

Design and display
Nokia 6 became the talk of the town and aroused considerable amount of interest since its global launch in January this year. The smartphone has garnered lot of appreciation for its design and we second that opinion. Nokia 6 is a sleek yet solid smartphone which flaunts a metal unibody. The device comes with round edges with antenna lines running across the top and bottom end of the phone. The smartphone has a slightly curved rear panel with matte finish which offers a firm grip to the user. The company has also added metal highlights to the device which further enhance the look and feel of the smartphone.

The right side of the device houses the volume rockers and power button, while the left houses a SIM card slot. The top band has the 3.5mm audio jack and the bottom has the micro USB charging port and speakers. The rear of the device features a 16MP camera with LED flash placed in vertical position along with the Nokia logo in the centre. The front panel comes with a 5.5-inch full HD 2.5D curved glass display. The right corner of the display has an 8MP front facing camera placed next to the Nokia branding. The bottom has soft keys along with the pill shaped home button which also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. Considering its price segment, Nokia 6 scores pretty well in the design segment.

Coming to the display, Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch full HD display with 1080x1920 pixel resolution. The display comes with conventional 16:9 aspect ratio and is coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which makes it scratch resistant. The bezels around the display are pretty thick and we feel too much space is wasted there. Other than this, the display quality is really good. It offers sharp, vibrant, crisp display quality and the colour reproduction is also very lively. The viewing angles were also fine and outdoor visibility wasn't an issue either.

Performance and camera
Nokia 6 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. Users can further expand storage up to 256GB by adding a microSD card. The smartphone is pretty good when it comes to doing daily tasks such as checking emails, browsing the internet and scanning through social media. However, if you are looking for something extra this device is not for you. We tried playing some heavy games like Modern Combat 5, Total War Battles: Kingdom and noticed lag in the performance. The device works well with light games but if you're a gamer, then the device will not make the cut. Other than gaming, multi-tasking was also not smooth and we witnessed lags while launching the camera and image processing.

We also ran a few benchmark tests on the device. While it scored 687 and 2,869 in single core, and multi core of Geekbench 4, it got a score of 47,121 on Antutu. The speakers of Nokia 6 are located at the bottom. This means that the audio output could be blocked if the device is being used in landscape mode. Audio output was pretty decent on both loudspeaker and headphones. The company has also incorporated Dolby Surround Sound mode which enhances the audio experience. Along with audio quality, call quality was also fine and the signal reception was also good. Nokia 6 is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery, which is satisfactory for smartphones in this price segment. The battery easily lasts a day of moderate usage on a single charge. However, if you love streaming Netflix or Amazon Prime then you might need a charger twice a day.

Nokia 6 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the -box. Just like Motorola smartphones, the Nokia 6 also offers stock Android experience. If you want a clean user interface without any bloatware then can consider Nokia 6. The company has already announced that the smartphone will get Android O update along with all the security patches. The software experience is pretty smooth and it has all the features of Nougat 7.1 such as split screen view among others.

For photography, Nokia 6 comes with a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. There is also an 8MP front snapper with f/2.0 for clicking selfies. Users can open the camera from the main screen and can also launch it by double tapping on the power button. The camera app is pretty clean and all modes are available on the main screen. The app also has a hidden menu which offers more controls to the users. Images captured using Nokia 6 came out quite well. While taking photos you will notice a yellow tint but that it absent in the images. Outdoor photography was good, with ample detailing and vibrant colour reproduction. However, images captured indoor turned out to be grainy and didn't impress us. The selfie camera was also fine and same as any other smartphone in this price segment.

Verdict

The Nokia 6 is a decent attempt from HMD Global in order to revive the Nokia brand. The smartphone offers a pretty good design and stock Android is an added advantage. However, it lacks a bit in the performance segment. Priced at Rs 14,999, the smartphone will face tough competition from Moto G5 Plus and Lenovo P2 which come at a similar price tag but offer better specifications.

Turn your old T.V. into SMART T.V. ?

Instead of buying an expensive smart TV, you can convert your existing set into a web-enabled entertainment centre by just spending a few thousands of rupees.

Portable media players

If you're working on a tight budget, you might want to consider an ultra-portable media player. These thumb-sized sticks, which resemble USB pen drives, are capable of streaming content - pictures, music, videos - wirelessly from a PC, smartphone or tablet to your TV screen (provided you have a Wi-Fi router set up at home).

Now there are quite a few brands available in the market, but these are either from companies that have almost no presence in the country, or have been tried by only a handful of people. However, Google's Chromecast (Rs 3,999) is available online (unofficially at www.ebay.in, www.amazon.in) and it's also easy to use. Simply plug in the device into the free HDMI port on your television.
Chromecast has a microUSB port which needs to be connected to a free USB port on the TV (or an alternative source) to power itself. Then, switch to that HDMI source (using the TV remote) and follow the set up instructions to connect to the existing Wi-Fi network in your home. Now, install the Chromecast app on your mobile device or PC/laptop and connect to the same wireless network. Run the app and follow the instructions to link the device to the adapter.

Once the process is complete, you will be able to 'throw' Full HD videos from YouTube onto your television screen (at present, Chromecast comes with video-on-demand channels like Netflix and Hulu that aren't available in India). However, if you have subscribed to local VoD services like BigFlix, BoxTV, Spuul, NexGTv, you can stream their shows to your big screen. For this, you need to install the Google Cast extension in your Chrome browser which will let you send the tab you are currently watching to your TV.

Also, there are quite a few free (and premium) mobile apps like EZCast, LocalCast and RealPlayer Cloud that let you stream personal content from your own smartphone and tablet.

Apple TV

The Apple TV (Rs 8,295) is a network media player that can be used to stream videos, pictures and music from your iOS or Android device. For the latter, you need to first install an app like Plex, PlayTo or Apple TV AirPlay Media Player on the handset or tablet. While you can subscribe to channels, buy or rent movies on iTunes via this player, you cannot store anything on it. Like the Chromecast, it doesn't include a USB port either, in case you would like to play a movie off a pen drive.
Box-type media players

While Chromecast is the simplest and the cheapest way to Wi-Fi-enable your television , it does not come with any internal memory or expandable memory slot to store any data.
For a complete solution, you can opt for a set-top box media player. All you need is a TV with a free HDMI port and an active internet connection to tap into. Such media players support Full HD content from a variety of sources on the internet.

Also, these boxes sport USB ports for your flash drives and external hard disks - and a memory card slot for SD cards, letting you view the content you have stored on them. Additionally, you could opt for boxes with internal storage for your movies and music, especially since these support a wide range of audio-video formats like DVD (VOB files), high-def MT2S videos, Windows Media files and high-quality audio standards like OGG and FLAC. Plus, you get the option to connect to a wired network and the ability to stream content from mobile devices.

Cast your screen from your Android device
  1. Connect your Android device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.
  2. Open the Google Home app Chromecast cast icon.
  3. In the top left corner of the home screen, tap Menu > Cast Screen / audio > Cast Screen / audio.
  4. Select your Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.
Stop casting your screen from your Android device

From the notification drawer:
  1. Pull down the notification drop down drawer on your Android device.
  2. Tap Disconnect on the notification bar.
From the Google Home app:
  1. Open the Google Home app Chromecast cast icon.
  2. Tap Cast Screen / audio > Disconnect.
Adjust the volume when casting your Android screen
  1. Open the Google Home app Chromecast cast icon.
  2. In the upper right corner of the home screen, tap Devices to see your available Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.
  3. Scroll to find the device card for the Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in that is currently casting content.
  4. Tap the Volume button on the device card.
  5. Move the slider to the left or right to adjust the volume.

Motorola's upcoming phone display could self-heal scratches.

Motorola could launch smartphone with self-healing screen: Report

Lenovo-owned Motorola is known for launching smartphones with shatterproof displays. Now the company plans to launch the phone with a new self-healing screen technology, which could fix scratches on the device's display. A patent first spotted by Slash Gear shows that Motorola has designed a self-healing technology, which would detect a crack in the display and notify the user.

Lenovo-owned Motorola is known for launching smartphones with shatterproof displays. Now the company plans to launch the phone with a new self-healing screen technology, which could fix scratches on the device’s display. A patent first spotted by SlashGear shows that Motorola has designed a self-healing technology, which would detect a crack in the display and notify the user.

Once the user would know that the damage has been done, heat could be applied to the glass to repair beyond minor cuts and scratches. Though, in its patent filing, Motorola said that the method should not be treated as the perfect solution. The screen is the most delicate part on the smartphone. If it accidentally breaks, users have no option but to consider buying a new device or spend thousands on a replacement screen.

This wouldn’t be the first time we’re hearing about a “self-healing” smartphone. In fact, LG was the first smartphone company to launch a smartphone with self-repairing elements. Its G Flex 2, which made its debut in 2015, had a “self-healing” back that’s claimed to repair cuts and scratches in less than 24 hours.

Earlier this year, in April, Business Insider reported that the Chemists at the University of California, Riverside, created a new materiel for a self-healing smartphone. The report said that scientists created a polymer that can stretch up to 50 times its original size. A self-healing material, when carved into two parts, will stitch automatically within 24 hours, just like a human skin. It’s being estimated that this new material will be commercially used by smartphone vendors by 2020.

Nokia 8: Specs, ZEISS dual cameras, expected India launch, price and everything to know

Nokia 8: Specs, ZEISS dual cameras, expected India launch, price and everything to know

The day many have been waiting for eagerly has finally arrived - Nokia has just announced its first Android flagship smartphone. The Nokia 8 has been a long time coming. Nokia fans have waited years for their much-loved company to embrace Android. And the smartphone does not disappoint. The Nokia 8 is carved out of a single block of aluminum and comes with ZEISS powered dual cameras, pure Android, top of the line specifications, OZO audio and much more.

Although happy at the return of their beloved brand, ardent Nokia fans were a bit disappointed back in February when HMD Global announced the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 at MWC 2017. Although capable smartphones, they were no match for the iPhones and Galaxy S8's of the world. The Nokia 8 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of the year and rightly so - it is not only the first high-end Android smartphone from Nokia, but also the first flagship from the company's stable since the dark Windows Phone days.
The Nokia 8 will retail for 599 Euros and aims to compete with heavyweights in the market such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, OnePlus 5 and IPhone 7. There are a lot of expectations riding on Nokia's return to the high-end segment of the market. Let us examine the Nokia 8 in detail:

Sturdy all-metal design

The Nokia 8 is constructed entirely out of metal and carries forward the design language seen on the Nokia 3, 5 and 6. The smartphone looks modern yet pleasantly reminiscent of Lumia smartphones of old. The Nokia 8 is machined out of a single block of series 6000 aluminium and is just 4.6mm thin at the edge and 7.3mm thin on average. Nokia claims that the smartphone is put through a 40-stage process of machining, anodizing and polishing and that the high-gloss finish on a few color variants takes over 20 hours to complete.
The rear is dominated by the vertical dual camera setup below which sits the Nokia branding. On the front, there is a physical home button flanked by capacitive keys for back and recent applications. There is also a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button. In a slightly disappointing move, the Nokia 8 does not come with an edge-to-edge display or a bezel-less design as seen in recent flagships such as the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8.

Top of the line specifications

The Nokia 8 is powered by Qualcomm's latest high end chipset - the Snapdragon 835. The 10nm processor is found in most flagships of 2017 such as the HTC U11, OnePlus 5, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xperia XZ Premium and is arguably one of the most powerful processors in the market currently. Additionally, the Nokia 8 comes with 4GB of RAM, the Adreno 540 GPU and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card (of up to 256 GB).
Nokia 8 comes with a premium all-metal design, top of the line specifications, a ZEISS powered dual camera setup at the rear, 100 percent stock Android and more
The Nokia 8 comes with a 3090 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. Nokia claims that the Nokia 8 comes with a very innovative heat management solution with a full-length graphite shielded copper cooling pipe that dissipates heat across the full length and breadth of the smartphone.

Bright, high-res display

The Nokia 8 comes with a 5.3-inch Quad HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection against nicks and scratches. The display is particularly bright with 700Nits of maximum brightness and comes with Nokia's trademark Glance Screen.

Pure and secure Android

Just like the Nokia 6, 5 and 3, the Nokia 8 runs on a 100 percent stock build of Android and comes with the promise of timely monthly security updates and yearly Android version updates. The Nokia 8 runs on the latest version of Android - 7.1.1 Nougat with no unnecessary bloat and changes.

Nokia has promised that the Nokia 8 will be updated to Android O as and when it is released. Nokia claims that they will be the first or amongst the first non Google manufacturers to release Android O to their smartphones. The marketing for the Nokia Android smartphone line-up reads - 'Pure, secure and up-to-date'.

Carl Zeiss optics

Nokia has had a long and storied history when it comes to smartphone photography. Along with Carl Zeiss, the company has given us iconic camera phones such as the Nokia N95 - the first phone in the world to come with a 5MP rear camera and the Nokia 808 PureView - which came with a 41MP rear camera.
Nokia 8 carries forward the legendary Nokia - ZEISS partnership. The Nokia 8 comes with a ZEISS powered dual camera setup at the rear - a primary 13MP RGB (color) sensor with optical image stabilisation paired with a 13MP secondary monochrome (black and white) sensor. Both cameras have an aperture of f/2.0 and the setup comes with phase detection auto-focus and a dual-tone flash. The rear camera(s) can also record video in 4K resolution.
Nokia 8 looks modern yet pleasantly reminiscent of Lumia smartphones of old
Nokia claims that the secondary monochrome sensor allows for the capture of depth information and helps improve low-light photography by capturing more data. On the front, there is a 13MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0, display flash and phase detection autofocus which has also been developed in association with ZEISS optics.

Connectivity

On the connectivity front, the Nokia 8 supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO, GPS/AGPS, GLONASS, NFC, ANT+ and Bluetooth 5.0. Unlike many flagships of late, the Nokia 8 comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack which should please audio enthusiasts. Additionally, it has a USB 3.1 Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

Special features

#Bothie
The Nokia 8 is the first smartphone in the world which allows 'Dual-Sight' video to be live streamed natively and in real-time to social feeds such as YouTube and Facebook. Dual-Sight allows you to use the front and rear camera at the same time in a split screen view. This feature can be utilised for both photos and videos. Nokia 8 users can backup unlimited photos and videos to Google Photos.
OZO Audio
Nokia is promising a 360 degree fully immersive audio experience with the Nokia 8. The smartphone's three microphones and Nokia's acoustic algorithms allow you to capture 360 degree spatial surround sound. You can also share 4K videos with OZO audio with anyone - binaural codecs ensure high fidelity playback even on devices without OZO Audio.
Splash resistance
While the Nokia 8 does not come with IP68 dust and water resistance, it is splash proof (IP54) and will be able to withstand light rains and splashes of water.

Price and availability

The Nokia 8 will go on sale globally in early September for 599 Euros, which roughly translates to around Rs 45,500. While there is no official word on the Indian launch, the smartphone is set to arrive in the country sometime in the month of September itself. The Nokia 8 is expected to be priced at Rs 39,999 in India to compete with the likes of the OnePlus 5. The smartphone is available in four colours variants, namely Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue and Steel.

Next Apple Watch likely to have LTE

Next Apple Watch likely to have LTE

Apple proposes to release Apple Watch with built-in LTE this year.Quoting Bloomberg, The Verge said.

This incorporation will enable Apple Watch owners to use the gadget even when they leave their iPhone at home- outside the range of its coverage. A lot of speculations regarding the product have surfaced. For instance, Apple could choose to sell models of the watch with and without LTE, charging a premium for cellular service.

This watch is most likely to require an extra data plan as well. The gadget will probably still need to be paired with an iPhone on some level, even if the phone isn`t always in the same vicinity.

The report says that battery life could be a major issue as well on a device that barely lasts a full day as it is. Other predictions are about the design of the Apple watch.

It is predicted that the watch will see a major change in its design as well. The updated watch is likely to be announced in September, alongside new iPhones. Apple last introduced an Apple Watch, the Series 2, in September of 2016. That model added GPS and water proofing.

Secrets and tips on promoting your website and blog.

Secrets and tips on promoting your website and blog.
Unless your website is among the top of search engine results, no one will know your site exists. The Internet consists of BILLIONS of web pages, and millions more appear every day. Our tips help improve your search engine rankings and page quality using the secrets and tips we learned over the past twenty-years. Computer Hope currently averages over 340,000 unique page views a day and over nine million unique a month (around 50 million hits).

Secrets and tips

Below is a listing of links to specific categories on this page. If you have not yet read this page we suggest reading this whole page, so you do not miss anything that might help your site.

Content

Content is kingCreate new and original content
By far the most significant first step any site can do is create new and original content. Search engines use web robots(spider/crawler) designed to search a website and grab keywordsand text from the website to be listed on their search engine. If your site does not have lots of content, your chances of being found are significantly decreased. For example, if your web page has ten pages and your competitor has 100 pages, it is a lot more likely that your competitor's website will be found first.
Tip: Because of abuse from content farms Google and other search engines are paying closer attention to the quality of your content. Make sure all of the content is quality content and that it is going to help your visitors. Just creating content to create content does not help you or your visitors. Always be asking yourself "Is this page good enough to be in a glossy magazine or new paper article?"
Update content frequently
Update and add new content frequently. If your site contains frequently updated content, visitors have yet another reason to return and bookmark your site and search engine crawlers will visit your site more often. We recommend creating at least 2-3 pages of new content weekly or even better a new page every day. Sites that have not been updated in over a month are considered abandoned pages by most visitors.
Scripts and other tools can also post new content as it happens, hourly, or daily. For example, the Computer Hope homepage has a computer related history event posted daily, monthly computer tips, daily computer word, and new forum posts and pages posted as they occur. When visitors see these type of features it gives them a reason to visit again.
Add content even if your site only sells products
Most users do not visit a website only to purchase a product. If your site sells anything it should have complete information about the products such as how to setup the product, how it can be used, reviews, and comments from other users. Not only will this bring more visitors to your web page, it is also likely they will convert into visitors that buy what is being sold.
User generated content such as product reviews is a must for any site that sells products. Most people expect at least a general review of a product and good reviews from many users can often talk the visitor into purchasing the product.
Format the content
Bounce rateFormat your pages content in an easy to read and scan format by creating easy to read, short, and catchy headings. Doing this makes your web page more enjoyable to read and help reduce your pages bounce rate. For the heading of each page, we also suggest surrounding it with the HTML <h1></h1> tags. The heading tags help match keywords and can improve your search engine rankings.
Keep in mind that on average, 8 out of 10 people will read headline copy, but only 2 out of 10 will read the rest of the piece. If your headline is confusing, tricky, or awkward, they won't continue reading.
The importance of the first paragraph
The first paragraph of text is the most important paragraph on the page. Search engine's pay close attention to the first paragraph and the first paragraph is what is going to catch the readers eyes. Placing important keywords into this paragraph and making sure it is well written can help improve your rank and will decrease your bounce rate.
Make sure each page has enough content
Individual web pages that only contain only a few dozen words do not help your page or your visitors. Make sure that at least every page has 200 words.
Add a catchy picture
People are visual creatures, adding one or more pictures that help grab the visitors eyes, build interest, and make sure they don't leave the site immediately. When adding a picture also make sure to add an alt attribute to the image that describes the picture and has keywords that a search engine is also going to notice.
Free
Most people on the Internet expect information to be free. If your site contains free information, be sure to mention it, for example, "free computer help" is much more catchy than "computer help". However, do not abuse the word "free", visitors who visit a free link and find a non-free page, registration requirement, or another scheme will leave the page. Tricking a user may get them to visit a page or link but anyone who feels tricked is going to leave and never return.

Domain, titles, and URL

Domain
If you plan on doing anything with your web page, a domain name is a must. When registering a domain name make sure the name is a short, simple, and easy to spell and remember. For example, Tips Alert is a much easier name to remember and type than TipsAlertfreetechnicalhelp. Many of the common domain names have already been taken, so try to think of as many names as possible. Doing a whois lookup is an easy way to determine what domains are available, the GoDaddy whois is an example of such a lookup.
Page title
Most search engines use the title of your web page when displaying your site in their search results. Therefore, it is always a smart idea to focus on every web page title. For example, this pages title is "Secrets and tips of promoting your web page and blog", this title is not only descriptive but also uses keywords: secretstipsweb page and promoting. Follow the tips below when creating a title.
  • Be as specific as possible and include what is unique on the page.
  • Always use the most important keywords at the start of your title.
  • The maximum size of a title should be 70 characters.
  • Use no more than 10 to 12 words in your title.
URL Keywords
Add keywords into your URL by adding subdirectories that are your keywords. keywords: computerhelp and cdrom. Use this to your advantage, search engines today convert your URL to text and use it as a method of indexing your web page.
Notice: Do not get carried away with using keywords in your URL. Having a short URL is also a good method of making sure your link is shared. Nothing worse than trying to send someone a link to a web page in an e-mail or chat only to find the link is four-lines long.
Domain 301 redirects
After you have registered your domain make sure your domain is properly forwarding to the address you want. For example, Computer Hope should be http://www.tipsalert.com and not https://www.tipsalert.com/. Both of these addresses are valid, but if you enter https://computerhope.com it is forwarded to https://www.tipsalert.com/. If we did not forward the URL, Google and other search engines treat both domains as different domains and could cause a lower page rank because of duplicate content.
If your page is not forwarding, you or your web host need to create a 301 redirect for your site.
A visitor will leave if they are unable to navigate your website. Studies have shown that the typical first view time is between two and four seconds. Internet users know that if your page does not have what they want, is hard to read, or hard to navigate that there are plenty of other options available and will leave.
Link to all subpages from the main page
Your main page should link to all of your sub pages; if this is not possible it should at least link to your main sections. When designing your website, make sure visitors can find what they are looking for within a few clicks. Creating a list of sub pages or categories, adding a search engine, or making a site map can all help your visitors.
Subpages should link back to homepage
All your sub pages should link back to your homepage or other main sections of your main page. Many of your visitors will not visit your page through the homepage, make it easy for visitors to go there from all sub pages. For example, a company logo or name should link to the main page or a navigation bar should have a link that says "home." It is also a good idea to have a way to get back to the homepage at the bottom of every page for anyone looking for more information.
Get a search engine
If your page does not its own search engine, consider using a third-party search engine. These custom search engine scripts can often be implemented into your site in less than a few minutes.

Keep it simple, clean, and fast

KISSKeep It Simple Stupid (KISS)
Follow the KISS principle, if your website is too busy or over complicated your visitors will become frustrated and leave.
Do not make the visitor scroll
When first visiting a web page, most visitors do not scroll down. Keep the important and eye-catching information on the first viewable page. If your page has lots of information, create bookmark links in the first section so visitors can jump to what interests them. Finally, never make a visitor scroll horizontal, a web page that scrolls left-to-right causes frustration and most visitors will not even realize they need to scroll and leave.
Keep your headers small
The top headers of all your pages should be small, at most one to two inches in height. A large header makes the visitor scroll down on every page and is often distracting for users who visit the site frequently.
Test with other monitors and browser
Not all users have the same browser, monitor, or computer. Make sure your web page looks good on all computers and monitors. A page displayed on a 17" monitor will look different when displayed on a smaller 15" monitor or laptop display. Consider using online tests to see how your web page looks with different browsers.
Test with other devices
Today, computers are not the only way people access the Internet. Make sure your page is accessible and viewable on other devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Avoid large images and Flash files
Avoid large images or flash animations that take a long time to load. Not everyone has a broadband connection, visitors with a modem or in other parts of the world may become impatient with slow load times. As we mentioned earlier, the average view time on a website is a few seconds, grab the visitors attention immediately with a fast-loading page. If your page needs large images consider loading those in a separate page.
Test your load times
Make sure the overall load time of a web page is no more than four seconds. Fast load times keep visitors on your site and search engines like Google use a web pages load time as part of their algorithm for ranking your page in the search results. Run portions of your web page through online tests to help determine the slow portions of your web page.

Meta Tags and robots.txt

Meta tags
Meta tags are hidden text found in the source of a web page queried by search engines and browsers. Below are two examples of Meta Tags to add into your HTML code.
Description and keywords example
<meta name="description" content="Free web page promotion tips and secrets in getting to the top of search engines and increasing the traffic to your website.">
The description of a web page is by far the most important meta tag to have on every page. The description describes what your web page is about and is often used as the description shown in search engine results.
<meta name="keywords" content="free, promotion secrets, promotion tips, promotion, secrets, SEO, banner exchange, search engines, increase page rank, pagerank, listing, keywords">
Tip: Today, the keywords meta tag is not as valuable as the description, but can still be used to list keywords that relate to your page. However, all major search engines today now ignore this tag.
General Rules of Meta Tags
  • Like all other HTML code, any website's Meta Tags are visible to everyone. View the source of some of your competitors' web pages to get ideas.
  • Search engines use no more than the first four lines of the description and keywords meta tags. Do not enter more than four lines of text, it is not used and could cause your site to be delisted.
  • Post the description and keywords of information that is on the page. Visitors tricked into visiting your page will not stay and this form of deceit can cause your entire site to be blocked by search engines.
  • Because of abuse, search engines like Google, no longer look at the keywords meta tags.
Today, most search engines no longer only rely off Meta Tags, some do not even look at them. Some people recommend skipping meta tags, however, there are still plenty of search engines that use these tags, we strongly recommend at the very least to have a description.
Tip: See the meta tags definition for further information and other possible options with meta tags.
Robots.txt
Search engines use robots (spider/crawler) to crawl and index your web page automatically. These robots often rely on the robots.txt to tell them what they can and cannot index on your website. If this file is missing from your website, your website may not be indexed or indexed properly. Make sure to at least have a basic robots.txt in your root directory.

E-mail

Respond as quickly as possible
If your page accepts e-mail, reply to every e-mail as quick as possible. If your page experience large volumes of e-mail, make sure to let your visitors know that replies may take a while.
Mention your web address in your e-mails
When replying or sending out any e-mail, always make sure to have a signature with your companies name, web address, and your e-mail address. A signature reminds users of your website's address and is an excellent free method of free advertising. However, keep the signature small, it should be no more than three-lines of text.
Do not send SPAM
Most users ignore SPAM, sending out unsolicited e-mails can get your e-mail address or domain added to lists that prohibit you from e-mailing servers that check these lists.
Links
Link to other popular related pages and see if they participate in link exchanges. One of the ways Google ranks pages is by who else links to your site and how popular their site is. The more inbound links to your page the more likely visitors will find your page because it is higher in search results.
Friends and family
Let your friends, family, coworkers know about your website. Not only is this a good way of getting the word out, it may also provide additional feedback about your website.
Social network
Participate in online forums, newsgroups, or other community driven sites that relate to your websites topic while letting others know about your website through a signature or a link. Watch the traffic, logs, and keywords

Analyze web page visitors
Many web hosts today offer their users with charts that show traffic information. Try to view this information and determine what pages are popular or where people are leaving.
Use Google Analytics
The basic web host statistics are a reasonable first start, however, nothing compares to the free Google's Analytics service. Google Analytics reports provide a better idea of how users are using your website and is better than anything any web host could provide.
Act on the information
Examine how people are entering your site and where they are exiting and bouncing. If a page is popular, link that page to other related pages in your site. If a page has a high exiting or bouncing rating, improve the page and if needed add more information.
Examine the popular search keywords visitors are using to find your page. If a page has search keywords that do not relate to information you have, add it to your page.
Examine and learn keywords
Use online tools to monitor and compare search keywords to help better judge what keywords you should be using on your site. A good tool we use and recommend is Google Trends, which allows you to enter and compare search keywords, compare keywords, and find trends.

Forum, bulletin board, or other user generated community

Create a community
Create an online forum or comments section that allows visitors to make their own comments, questions, and posts. Creating a community is a great way not only to build a brand community but at the same time generate more content for your site. If you already have a forum make sure that you read through our tips for making your forum more popular.
Join other social networks
Register and become a member of popular online communities and social networks such as Facebook, Google+, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, Twitter, and MySpace. If you have a company, product, or service also consider creating a fan page on Facebook.
Tip: After joining StumbleUpon and getting the toolbar make sure to visit your page and give it a thumbs up so other StumbleUpon users will see your page.

Submit and promote your site to Search Engines

Google - Today, Google is the ranked as the most popular and well-known search engine on the Internet and often the only search engine used by many people. It is not necessary to submit every page in your site, however, to accelerate how quickly the Google bots find your site submit your main page to the link below. What makes Google unique is their proprietary PageRank algorithm, which makes the most relevant pages shown first.
Yahoo - Another one of the most visited and known search engines on the Internet and now part of Microsoft Bing. To add to Yahoo visit the link below, sign into your Yahoo account, and submit your URL.
Promoting your local business
If you're running a business website and need to promote the business and site make sure to submit it to Google Places and Bing Business.
Search optimization services and other paid services
There are several companies and people that claim they can help improve your search engine rankings. While these services may improve your rankings, it is not likely going to happen for search queries you want or is so insignificant that it is not worth the price. It is more beneficial to follow all the free recommendations in this page than any paid service.

Analyze search engines

Google
Google has one of the largest (if not the largest) search engine indexes on the Internet. Use it to your advantage to view who is linking to you or your competitors and what they are saying about your site. Use each of the below searches to see how your page is indexed and who is linking to you.
site: www.tipsalert.com
In the above example, Google search displays any page they have index containing www.tipsalert.com. Replacing tipsalert with your domain is an easy way to determine how many entry points you have into your website. The more entry points a page has the better chance a visitor is going to find your web page.
Setup Google Alerts
Finally, setup a Google Alert to send you e-mails anytime your web page or company name is mentioned. Google Alerts is an easy method of finding new pages and articles linking to your site or mentioning your service.
Setup Google Webmaster Tools
The Google Search Console is yet another excellent free service Google provides webmasters. With these tools you can view search queries used to find your pages, crawl errors, links to your site, keywords, diagnostics, and much more.
Alexa
Finally, Alexa is another excellent place to check and compare your pages statistics. If your site is popular enough you can compare it with other sites on the Internet, view traffic details, rank, page views, and page visits per user. If your site does not rank on Alexa it may still be possible to spy on your competition if they are popular enough to rank on Alexa. Keep in mind though that Alexa's data is largely based on who is using the Alexa toolbar.

Watch for errors

Bad links
Bad links are a growing issue with web pages and an easy way to lose visitors. Never change any of names or location of your pages, even when redesigning a web page. It is likely that those pages are already indexed in search engines, linked on other web pages, or even bookmarked. Removing or moving your page is like starting all over, and could cause a significant reduction in new visitors.
Tip: If your server allows for custom error pages, always take advantage of this ability. A custom 404 error page that directs visitors to other pages on your site is much more useful than a blank 404 error page.
Tip: Use the Google Webmaster Tools to also quickly identify bad links.
Spelling and Grammar
Your page is going to be seen by thousands or even millions of different people, watch your spelling and grammar. Make sure to run a spell check on your pages and proof read before posting the page. A page that has spelling and grammar errors cause a more educated visitor to leave your site.
HTML, CSS, and other programming errors
HTML, CSS, or other programming errors can cause your website to not load properly or to not work with older browsers. Make sure your web page is going to work with all recent Internet browsers and that anyone who may have disabilities is going to be able to read your page. Use free online services to check your site or blog for errors.

Grade your website and let it age

Let it age
Like a fine wine, many search engines (such as Google) are also incorporating a websites age into the overall rank of a site. If a site that has been online since 1998 is going to have a higher PageRank than a site that has only been online since 2010. When setting up your domain make sure it is going to be something you are going to be happy with forever.
It is also a good idea to register your domain for several years into the future. Google and other search engines use this metric to determine if the domain is a temporary domain to scam people.
Grade your website
Finally, after doing all of the above steps and suggestions rate and grade your website or blog using online tools.
